Launching Our New Nutritional Extra Packages: Vitamin D and Omega-3 Testing

This summer, we are launching new nutritional extra package trials at Real Health London.

Vitamin D and Omega-3 fats play vital roles in supporting our health, yet many of us don’t know whether our levels are optimal. Testing these removes the guesswork, prevents deficiencies, and allows recommendations to be tailored to your individual needs rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.

We are pleased to introduce the following packages:

  • Nutrition plus Vitamin D testing: £165
  • Nutrition plus Omega 3+ testing: £185
  • Nutrition plus Vitamin D and Omega 3+ testing: £250

The Importance of Optimal Vitamin D Levels

Vitamin D is well known for bone health, but it impacts the body in many ways, including the
functioning of the immune system, brain and nervous system, muscles and cell growth. As a result,
sub-optimal levels may affect susceptibility to illness, muscle strength and recovery, energy levels and
overall wellbeing, although many people may have no symptoms.

Whilst we can get vitamin D from food, the variety of food sources are limited and they also tend to
not contain enough vitamin D to meet our needs.

Although our skin produces vitamin D when exposed to UVB rays in sunlight, many of us in the UK have levels below optimal for a number of reasons:

  • Staying indoors in the summer.
  • Covering our skin with sunscreen or clothing to protect from the harmful effects of sun exposure.
  • Having darker skin.
  • Naturally producing less as we age.

Between October and March in the UK, the angle of the sun limits the amount of vitamin D we can produce, even on a sunny day.

If your vitamin D status is sub-optimal, it is important for your health and wellbeing to ensure you are taking a supplement at the dose recommended for you – testing allows for this and follow-up testing
can confirm you have reached and are maintaining optimal levels.

Understanding Your Omega-3 Index

Omega-3 fats are essential, which means we must obtain them from the diet or supplements. They support cardiovascular and cognitive health, and they help to support the body’s natural inflammatory processes. They are also important for recovery from exercise and maintaining healthy cell membranes throughout the body. However, many people consume less oily fish than recommended, meaning their omega-3 levels may not be optimal.

Testing your Omega-3 Index provides an objective measure of your long-term omega-3 status by measuring the amount of the two key omega-3 fats, EPA and DHA, in red blood cell membranes, correlating directly with cardiovascular risk. As red blood cells live for around 120 days, the result reflects your average omega-3 intake over the last 3-4 months, rather than what you ate yesterday.

Research has shown that a higher Omega-3 Index is associated with better cardiovascular health, while an index of 8% or higher is considered optimal. An index below 4% indicates high cardiovascular risk. Your results help us determine whether dietary changes alone are likely to be sufficient or whether supplementation may be beneficial, allowing recommendations to be personalised to your individual needs.

Testing these biomarkers therefore enables a more targeted, evidence-based approach to nutrition, helping you make informed decisions to support your wellbeing, and avoid unnecessary or ineffective supplementation.

The tests are quick and simple finger-prick blood tests that can be done in the clinic or at home.
Results take 2-4 weeks and will be discussed in your nutrition consultation.
